A long history
Fort Walton Beach has a rich history including the legendary pirate of the 1800's Billy Bowlegs, the namesake of the popular annual Billy Bowlegs Festival. Chartered in 1937, this was a tourist destination for many people across the
North, Midwest and
Southeast.
Where is the Fort?
Even though it is named Fort Walton and while there is Eglin Air Force Base, Fort Walton actually got its name when a Civil War cannon was unearthed in the 1930's where downtown sits today. With many local attractions such as Gulf World aquarium, Fort Walton Beach makes a great place for your whole family to enjoy. With the Fort Walton (Valparaiso) airport minutes away, this has become a very popular place to purchase real estate for travelers from up north.
